I have been practicing taiji for over 10 years, with Cliff as my instructor for most of that time. I live with a serious chronic disease that causes fatigue and systemic arthritis. I took up taiji because I want to relieve the arthritic pain and have better balance on my feet.

Over the years, I have witnessed the gentle and compassionate way Cliff guides his students, with various forms of disabilities, through their taiji classes. He is very adept at modifying his instructions to accommodate the individual who may not be feeling well so he/she gets the most out of the class; so much so that at the end of the class, the student has more energy and feels much better. I can attest that I have this experience of being energized and a feeling of well being at Cliff’s classes on numerous occasions. I am comforted by the fact that his skill in the art of taiji instruction is based on a strong foundation of physical and physiological knowledge of the human body.

An instructor needs more than the ability to teach to be successful. He/she must create an inviting and fun environment. Cliff's sense of humour goes a long way in making his students feel at ease which results in a more enjoyable taiji class; he has always emphasized having fun and not get too worked up about taiji. His dedication is demonstrated by his willingness to go to great lengths to ensure his students have the means to get to his classes - many times he have picked them up and drove them home.

I am a 57 year old woman recently retired who had mostly sedentary jobs that took their toll on my body causing stiffness, poor posture, and aching in my neck, back and knees. I also had rotator cuff issues that were being treated by a physiotherapist and improving. Although I did some research and discovered that tai chi is scientifically proven to be helpful for many ailments and general health, and even prescribed by well-known health facilities, I was skeptical that something so slow moving could be beneficial plus I didn't think that I would like the pace. Well, I enjoyed the 2 hour classes right off the hop, and after a few weeks of attending class twice a week and some home practice, I am happily surprised that I enjoy tai chi immensely and that I am feeling healthier in mind, body and spirit. My stiffness and aches are nearly gone, my posture is much better and my legs are stronger. The moving meditation is very relaxing yet energizing! We are blessed to have such a knowledgeable, patient and humorous instructor coming to Cooks Creek to help us become healthier through tai chi and I look forward to learning more as I continue to practice and reap all the rewards it has to offer as I age.
Thanks ... Merci,

"I'm a senior and have been practising Tai Chi on and off for many years. Initially I started Tai Chi because I was drawn to the meditative quality of inner stillness it offers. I soon discovered that however good it is for the soul, it's equally good in the many health benefits it can provide. Thank-you to the Canadian Tai Chi Academy for providing an Instructor who is patient, very personable, and who provides insightful and detailed explanations when required."

Anonymous Feb, 2020: (Mobility, Pain Reduction)
I am in my 50s and started tai chi in November of 2019. I decided to try tai chi as I heard of its health benefits. I was unable to bend over from back pain for almost 2 years. In only 3 weeks of practice my mobility has mostly returned. The more I practice the more improvement. I do my tai chi sitting and standing. There is even support on line.

Anonymous Feb, 2020: (Mobility, Pain Reduction)
I am a senior in my 80s.  For years I took extra strength pain killers for my back daily and walk with a cane. I found a tai chi table at the local market. Having heard of its health benefits I decided to give it a try. Before I knew it they had taught me a basic sitting tai chi exercise. I walked out of the market with so much less back pain. I started practising on a regular basis right away. I haven't had to use any pain killers since. I do the sitting exercise at home every day and go regularly to class where I practice and they show me more.

I am in my 50's and about a year and a half ago, I dislocated a disc in my lower back, which produced intense sciatic pain and reduced my mobility enormously. I could hardly walk let alone go about my life normally. I read about the health benefits of Tai Chi and it looked like a soft kind of movement and decided to give it a try in October 2019, to see if it could help me. Our instructor advised me to start with a chair exercise since standing was a challenge. Within a couple of weeks, my pain lessened and my mobility increased tenfold. With regular practice, also at home, I am almost back to normal! I also enjoy the classes pleasant, positive and calm atmosphere and the amazing knowledge that Cliff shares with all of us.
